Sleeping Bear
***You know what they say about waking a sleeping bear. They've been saying that about Russia for the past month in relation to Georgia. Many have blamed Bush for jabbing at the 'sleeping bear' until it woke up and took parts of Georgia. Most, though, neglect to mention the major oil pipeline that Russia also went after. I'm sure that had nothing to do with their decision - it is really all America's fault...
Well, with the selection of Governor Palin and then her speech last night, it appears that the GOP sleeping bear has awoken. The pundits are swinging away at the speech by saying she was only speaking to GOP voters and the delegates in MN. They are saying that she took swipes and jabs at The Obama. They are saying that it was a red meat speech.
Duh. That was the point. Roust the GOP voters, the GOP leaners, the Reagan Democrats to jump on board with the McCain team.
This is a convention. This is a HUGE pep rally. She is the VP nominee. That is her job!
Why was it that two weeks ago when The Obama selected Biden it was seen as a good choice because Biden is known to be an attack dog while having experience different from The Obama?
Palin is an attack dog and offers an experience much different from McCain to make a balanced ticket. The GOP voters out there who thought about staying home because they didn't like something about Senator McCain now have a reason to go to the polls in Nov.
Republican voters have been beaten for the last few years and felt, like much of the US, that DC was a closed loop and that nothing could be done to break thru the bubble. GOP voters want to see less spending & smaller govt. They want to see govt. working. We've seen GOP 'leaders' ignore these basic tenets, shun party building, turn away volunteers and pad their own pockets.
The choice of Palin, though, not only shows the conservatives that they might have a voice in the White House in January, GOP voters also see a glimmer of hope for the future of the party. The Palin selection WILL result in more young people jumping into public service and politics on the GOP side just as it has done with The Obama and the Dems.
Win or lose in November, Governor Palin's nomination will have lasting effects on the Republican Party.
'nuff said.
***OK. How would you like to go to a meeting scheduled for 90 minutes, have it run over by at least a 1/3, not get any specifics and not get any of your questions answered? Nice to hear that Supt. Milton wants to provide the community with his educational philosophy but how about SPECIFICS and REASONS?!?!
***This is her second announcement that she is running for Circuit Clerk and she STILL has nothing solid of why she is running other than to 'professionalize' the office. Have there been a lot of complaints from people who interact with the Circuit Clerk's office that they haven't been treated professionally? And, what does that mean, exactly? Is she going to bring her year's of professional legal secretary skills to bear on the office? Is she going to bring her professional aldermanic experience to the office? Is she going to bring her professional city clerk experience to the office? Finally, she doesn't believe that a third party performance audit is valid because the County paid for it. Well, thank goodness the City Clerk's office has never been submitted to such a 'biased' external audit of their operations.
***Once again, Sen. Rev. Meeks gives in. In cancelling his ego-driven boycott because of 'assurances' from Crazy Rod, Meeks said this: "We believe the governor is a man of good will and a person of his word," Meeks said. "So, we are therefore seeking a meeting on Thursday to discuss school funding reform."
And, this is the man who last week proposed a plan for the state to spend $120M on FOUR schools with him in charge. This guy trusts Crazy Rod!!! He wants to be in charge of 4 schools and $120M. Chicago politicians never cease to amaze. I wonder if the SJR still thinks Meeks' proposal should be looked at???
***The Great Loop Lab School appears to have finally run into one hurdle they couldn't leap to hang on the the $1M of IL taxpayer money that they were given by mistake - Chicago ordinance. You recall that this is the school that got $1M by MISTAKE and Crazy Rod said he wasn't going to ask for it back. Well, it looks like they might have to give it back afterall. Who thinks they'll be able to come up with the cash??? Who think Crazy Rod will tell them not to worry about it???
***Joe Biden says that if The Obama is elected, they will go after Bush Administration officials and charge them criminally if an investigation determines crimes have been committed. Fine. But, why aren't they doing that now. They both, unless they've forgotten, hold US Senate seats. Pursue criminal prosecution now. Or, is it that they want the full power of the presidency to go after people because of politics and not because of supposed crimes?
