Scraps

***The SJR seems to believe that we shouldn't expect excellence; that we should be grateful for whatever scraps the Gods of Congress & the Airline Industry deign to deliver to our fair city; that we shouldn't complain about the never ending stream of tax dollars that fly off to the horizon every 6 months or so when our subsidies run out.  Has the SJR never heard the phrase about those who don't recognize their own history are bound to repeat it.

The Abraham Lincoln Capitol Springfield Illinois International Regional Crop Dusting Airport has never and will never be successful.  It doesn't matter how much the Chamber and the SJR and the Airport Board wish and dream and cajole state and federal tax dollars - it will not work.

And, this statement at the end of the editorial pretty much sums up the moral of Springfield:  At this point, Springfield should be thankful for whatever it can get.  That's right, Springfield, suck it and be THANKFUL!!!  Why can't you just be thankful for mediocrity?  Your parents were grateful to have crap.  They never had such a heaping high plate of crap in their life.  You should be singing from the rafters.  WE CAN GO THE MEPHIS!!!  Gateway to the World!!!

The SJR and sooooo many other 'leaders' and 'institutions' in this city refuse to look beyond the end of their nose.  This is the way it has always been done and even though it has never worked, we're going to keep doing it.  What about entering into an agreement for a regional airport?  What about pushing for legislation to get rid of the state fleet of airplanes?

***Three more crap reasons why gas prices are going up when oil prices are dropping.

***The Palin interview.  What I found interesting about the lib critique is that Palin clearly doesn't have any grounding in foreign policy.  So, there!  However, wasn't Biden heralded as a genious pick by The Obama because of Joe's 35 years of foreign policy experience in the US Senate?  Wasn't Biden's experience in all things foreign the balance that The Obama needed?

Additionally, haven't we been hearing for years and years and years that Bush has been too focused on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and that he hasn't paid enough attention to domestic issues like housing and immigration and health care?

So, now we have a VP who says she has never met a foreign leader and the crowd goes nuts.  The Obama spent time in the Philipines as a child and took a grand European/Middle East tour this summer and he has more experience?

***Boys, boys, boys.  Put a shirt on and grow up.  We just can't stand for your enthusiasm to be seen as a double standard.  Next thing you know, men will be back to wearing full body bathing suits and women will be swimming in dresses.

***Listen to the only LOCAL, conservative talk show in Springfield on-line.

Although my views are quite different than both of yours I do enjoy listening and given that I've listened to nearly every show since your inception I feel qualified, hubristically so, to believe that had Obama given the exact same answers as Palin, you would be cheering Charles Gibson's questions & jeering Obama's answers. You two have opened my eyes and changed my opinions on a lot of things but I feel 100% confident that, to you, he'll never do anything right & that your opinions on Obama v. Palin are always double-standards.
