Mid-Sept

***The SJR makes a valid point in the editorial today about payday loan stores.  When does it stop?  This is afterall a commercial thoroughfare; this is where businesses are supposed to go.  I don't necessarily think they make the neighborhood look great, but I also don't like the Walgreens/CVS on every corner approach or the trash that frequents Burlington Coat Factory or Penny Lane.  The difference is nobody is trying to get rid of these storefronts.

***This morning's reports from Galveston indicated that thousands stayed behind to 'ride out the storm' and now were having to be rescued.  From the Sun-TimesRescuers said they had saved nearly 2,000 people from waterlogged streets and splintered houses by Sunday afternoon. Many had ignored evacuation orders and tried to ride out the storm. Now they were boarding buses for indefinite stays at shelters in San Antonio and Austin.

Why do these idiots stay behind?  They had days and days of warning.  The weater service said you would face certain death.  One woman shown on the Today show reported how she stayed behind with her toddler and the water rose in her home up to her neck before it was over.

***This is sure to be a good meeting - Meeks & Crazy Rod.  They have to meet at the United Center so that they and their egos have enough room to sit down.

***Krauthammer on The Obama:  The problem, however, was that Obama had announced the Invesco Field setting for the speech during the pre-Berlin flush of hubris. They were stuck with the Greek columns, the circus atmosphere, the rock star fireworks farewell—as opposed to the warmer, traditional, balloon-filled convention-hall hug-a-thon. The incongruity between text and context was apparent. Obama was trying to make himself ordinary—and serious—but could hardly remember how.

***Kristol discusses the outrage from the establishment towards Palin:  As for real university professors, especially the academic-feminist establishment, they’re even more upset. Wendy Doniger of the University of Chicago’s Divinity School wrote last Tuesday of Palin: “Her greatest hypocrisy is in her pretense that she is a woman. The Republican Party’s cynical calculation that because she has a womb and makes lots and lots of babies (and drives them to school! wow!) she speaks for the women of America, and will capture their hearts and their votes, has driven thousands of real women to take to their computers in outrage. She does not speak for women; she has no sympathy for the problems of other women, particularly working-class women.”

Of course, this elite academic professor knows nothing of politics or polling.  McCain's numbers with white women have shot thru the roof.  Isn't this the same group that The Obama had difficultly with against HRC???

***Oil prices continue to drop even with Ike and it doesn't look like there is much damage to the rigs or the refining capacity.  Of course, the US should be building more refining capacity TODAY.  But, Durbin and the eco-nuts have continued to keep such improvements to our national security by throwing up roadblocks and greater regulations.

***Years The Obama would like to forget and for you not to find out about.
