***It's as if USA Patrick Fitzgerald knew that Kelm's last day would be today and he wrapped up the biggest, shiniest gift he could think of: The Indictment of Crazy Rod!!! Everyone indicted has to say the same thing, right? We can't wait to get to trial and we will be proven innocent. Really? How many federal indictments end up with the indictee being found not guilty?

Remember, Martha lied to a federal agent. BOOM! Prison time!

***IL Senate Dems continue to increase your taxes and not give two wits about it. This time $1/pack of cigs. Before this Spring Session is over, we are all going to be paying a lot more money because of the tax & spend libs in IL and in DC.

***Speaking of increasing taxes, come out to the CAPITAL CITY TEA PARTY on April 15th! Kelm is MCing the event and we're trying to get WMAY to let Kirk broadcast live from the event. It is 11:30a to 1p at the Lincoln statue at 2nd and Capitol. Bring a sandwich and spend the lunch hour with us!!!

***NIMBY meets 'green jobs'. The Obama has predicated a lot of his recession busting plans on 'green jobs' like building wind turbines. Ooops. Here in Sangamon Co., there is an anti-wind group up and going and now in DeKalb Co., they don't want the turbines either.

What's it gonna be people? You won't let the US drill on US lands; no more coal plants; no more gas exploration; no more nuke plants. Now, you don't want wind turbines. Have you seen the giant directed solar farms? These NIMBY-pambies are going to hate those.

***On a personal note, thanks to Kirk for partnering with me for nearly two years. I've been on the air for over 4 years and the last two have been a blast! ** As many of you know, the Kelm & Kirk Show will be no more after Friday's broadcast.

** In light of this, Mayor Tim Davlin declared April 1st, 2009 "Dave Kelm Day." Bet you've never had a day named after you.

** On a personal note....Dave is a great friend and we've had a lot of laughs together -- both on and off air. I hope he thinks the same of me....but no matter...I will miss working with him on a day-to-day basis.

** Enough of the sentimentality.....As Billy Mays says....Wait, There's More! I will have more information to share shortly so stay tuned to the new Kirk and Crew show beginning Monday. Sorry to be so cryptic.

** Farewell my friend. I and many others will miss you.

***The Kelm & Kirk POT HOLE EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM kicked it up a notch in Chicago.

The Colonel, himself, is going to handle the potholes in the Windy City. That's right, KFC is going to pay to fill the potholes and then put their logo right on the patch. AWESOME!

This was kind of our idea from a couple of weeks back. We encouraged people to fill in their favorite pothole with a $5 bag of asphalt from a local home improvement store and then put a sign next to former hole taking credit.

This is simply an extension of PHERT!

***The 'reforms' put forth by the so-called Reform Commission yesterday are the same, tired re-tread ideas that haven't worked in DC and, for the most part, are un-Constitutional. Money ='s speech. We cannot take the speech away from state employees or lobbyists.

The IL media is going to jump all over this, just as the Big Lib Media jumped all over McCain-Feingold because such 'reform' further entrenches Media as the one & only place for voters and legislators to get opinions and news.

Reform is simple: every, single donation must be posted to the State Board of Elections Website w/in 24 hours of reciept and non-disclosure should bring criminal and civil penalties for the office-holder.

There. Done. Next.

The SJR & 186...No Leadership

***So, the SJR opts to endorse the current 186 School Board president who can't lead her board out of a paper bag when it comes to the largest decision facing 186; who opts to punt by hiring a $100,000 consultant who runs secret meetings; and, who for the last four years has seen increasingly unbalanced budgets continue to eat away at the district's surplus. This is who the SJR wants on the school board for another 4 years. No wonder the SJR and newspapers in general are faltering.

Then, the SJR, who clearly has done zero investigation into the woman from Arkansas' claim that she neither sought nor would accept an endorsement by a political party, endorses this candidate because they don't like the Keith Sias slogan. They endorsed a woman who by accounts from Dem PCs and GOP officers sought endorsements from both parties. The SJR believed anything that came out of this woman's mouth without verifying. IF the SJR had sent someone to the Dem Committee Call they would've heard their endorsee openly seek the Dem endorsement. IF the SJR had followed up by calling the county GOP, they would've found out that their endorsee in fact called the GOP and explicitly asked for their endorsement.

Oops.

***Crazy Rod just keeps sticking it to the taxpayers of IL. Now, the State Employees Retirement System has approved former State Rep and Former IDNR Director Kurt Granberg's pension at $113,305/year. This is about $40,000 MORE than what he would've rec'd just by retiring from the GA. He spent 3 weeks as IDNR Dir and gets a $40K bump in pension.

And, who says we have pension problems in Illinois?!?!?!

***Ahhh, 'Open Government', Illinois-style...

***I wonder if the auto industry would like to take another look at bankruptcy. Bankruptcy protection certainly would've been a better choice than complete and utter takeover by The Obama. The interesting thing with the takeover of GM and Chrysler is that only the executives are getting blamed. What about the UAW and their ever increasing demands for more pay, more benefits and higher pensions? When with The Obama fire the Union leadership?

***F-in whiners. Why can't "journalists" seem to be able to use their cell-phones and live a normal, healthy life at the same time? And, since they are inept and the simplest of life's tasks, they don't want anyone else to do it...

***Speaking of reality shows, what the F is wrong with young men who happen to be millionaires who can't find a wife/girlfriend/partner? Really? Is it that hard these days to actually just talk to someone without a publicist or reality show tagging along?

***Why is it, again, we even have cops? They no longer ticket people for running red lights or ticket cars at parking meters and now we have a bill that will allow speeders to be ticketed by video-camera. This isn't about safety. This is another revenue bill gussied up to look like a safety provision.

***First, AG Holder says that it is US guns that are flowing into Mexico that is the problem with the Mexican drug war. Second, SoS Clinton says it is the drug consumption of the US that is the problem with the Mexican drug war. The Obama sends $1.4B to Mexico over the next three years to assst. Finally, the slobbering Nat'l Media rush to the border to repeat these 'blame America' messages and continue to repeat, as fact, items that have no basis in reality.

The Mexican govt has said that more than 90% of the weapons used in the drug war come from America. There is no evidence that the corrupt govt of Mexico, soon to be a 'failed state' is telling the truth. Yet, Anderson Cooper of CNN and Andrea Mitchell of NBC both have repeated these assertions as FACT.

When conservatives have demanded action of the Dems in Congress and of Bush when he was in the White House, they warned of the open border and that the violence on the other side would spill over. There were warnings that the border was open to terrorists and drug runners and human traffickers. All of these warnings were derided as racist ramblings of people afraid to 'change'. The libs encouraged an open border and created a climate where cops can't ask about citizenship; where cities are safe havens; and where laws are ignored.

The Obama & the Dems have truly created this problem because of their desire to create a new majority. The business wing of the GOP has created the problem because of their desire for cheap labor.

Noone's laughing now, though.

***Sneed is reporting that Topinka is thinking about running for Treasurer, again. It is also floating around out there that Jim Ryan is looking at or being encouraged to run for US Senate. Both of these people are great and if they are the nominees, they should be elected. HOWEVER, can't the GOP find ANYONE else with a solid business background who is young and ready to lead??? The IL Dems are overloaded w/young talent & the IL GOP is looking at people who were in office about 7 years ago. C'mon!

***Ch-ch-cha-Chia Obama...

***Dennis Bryne today: :...Quinn's budget also would make matters worse. Illinois is losing jobs and businesses. More people leave than settle here. An arguably low income tax is offset by higher-than-average property taxes, the nation's highest sales tax (in Chicago), a high inheritance tax and a multitude of other, less obvious taxes that Quinn would increase.

***NYT today editorializes that a case before the US Supreme Court dealing with the 1st Amendment - the one that come before the rest-would 'flood' the political landscape with corporate money...Really? Because of one documentary made in opposition to HRC, this would open the doors.

Perhaps the NYT hasn't heard of George Soros or Emily's List or the mega unions that all drown Dem candidates in BIG MONEY!

The NYT argures that, The McCain-Feingold law bars corporations from using their own treasuries for “electioneering communications” within 30 days of a primary or 60 days of a general election. The ban applies to “express advocacy” or its “functional equivalent” for or against a candidate.

Remember, of course, that BIG MEDIA is exempt from these bans on communications. The NYT can write whatever it damn well pleases the day of the election about any candidate it wants to villify or trumpet. The NYT doesn't want YOU to have that option.

Durbin Knows Business

***Tricky Dicky Durbin, who has never run a business and, admittedly, can't balance his own checkbook, wants to SUPERTAX the AIG bonuses. Tricky even throws up the red-herring that if the UAW workers have to give back, so should the AIG folks. Of course, the UAW modifications were made thru the contractual process & collective bargaining. Tricky appreciates contracts when they're used with unions but not when they are used for AIG employees. Never mind the fact that the AIG CEO testified last week that most of the employees were giving back the bonuses...

***By the way, The Obama isn't interested at just stopping at executive bonuses/salaries for bail-out companies, he's looking at YOUR salary, too.

***Why is it OK for Nancy Pelosi and, now, Cardinal George to say that we don't need to follow the laws of the U.S.? Oh, wait. Botox Nancy is looking for fresh voters for the libs & George is looking for fresh parishoners for the Church. Got it.

***He doesn't have the flair or the hair, but Quinn certainly has all of the same crappy ideas from Crazy Rod only with all of the tax increases to actually pay for them. Why is it that cutting govt is always 'mean-spirited' to Democrats but raising income taxes, taxes on cigarettes, taxes on license plates, taxes on drivers licenses, taxes on vehicle transfers - those aren't 'mean-spirited', those moves are 'open and direct'?

Also, Mike Madigan is talking about 'reforming' State Govt. The Speaker has been the Speaker FOREVER and now he wants to reform State Govt. Hmmmmm. I wonder why? Governor Lisa Madigan, perhaps?

And, why is it that Democrats keep telling us that they are going to cut deficits & eliminate debt by piling on more spending, deficits & debt? The Obama HEAPED on the pork and keeps talking about $1T for health care and now $2T for 'climate change' but that he is going to cut the deficit in half in his first term. Now, MIghty Quinn is talking about eliminating the $11.5B deficit with $2.5B in NEW SPENDING for next year and $26B capitol plan!!!!

These guys don't get it.

Is there anything in the budget that will cut the per diem, salary, benefits or anything expense for the Illinois General Assembly? ***Yesterday we told you about this gem from the SJR editorial board: The SJR doesn't want politicians or voters to focus on earmarks. Afterall, says the paper of record in Springfield, pork projects for one community is a solid public works project for another. Besides, the SJR says: It’s time to give this issue a rest and focus on fixing the banking system, health-care reform, energy independence and other critical issues. Debating earmarks is as much of a waste of time as proponents claim the actual earmarks are a waste of money. Eliminating them does little to balance the budget or reduce our national debt.

Today we get this: The federal government now owns 80 percent of AIG and has contributed $170 billion to shore up the company, whose reckless selling of credit default swaps (insurance policies on the toxic housing assets held by banks, which AIG couldn’t pay out) sparked its demise.

THAT'S WHY it’s hard to believe that the government can do nothing to prevent $165 million in bonuses from going to derivative traders who are responsible for billions in losses.

Outrage over these contractually obligated bonuses is understandable. Most Americans don’t work at jobs where failure is rewarded.

So, the SJR wants all of us to ignore $7.7 BILLION in earmarks in the $410 BILLION spending bill that The Obama signed last week. Don't get distracted by the $7.7 BILLION dollars. It's a waste of time, says the paper of record for Spfld. Eliminating the earmarks will do little to balance the budget...

But, today they want us to be OUTRAGED at the AIG bonuses and they want the money paid back to the US Taxpayers.

Let's do some SIMPLE MATH, shall we:

The SJR loves the earmarks - OK, $7.7B of $410B is about 2% of the overall spending plan. Of course, this is money that we taxpayers will never see again. BUT, the SJR believes that it is silly for us peons to complain about 2% of the spending.

The SJR hates AIG - OK, $156M for the bonuses out of the $170B, approx, that AIG has rcv'd from the US Taxpayers. That equals about .0009 or 9/100ths of 1% of the AIG bailout. This is what we are supposed to be outraged by, says the SJR.

Oh, and the AIG bailout is a LOAN. According to The Obama and the Congress, the US Taxpayers are supposed to get ALL OF THIS MONEY back at some point. All of it. Including the $156M in bonuses.

Does anyone at AIG deserve a bonus? I don't know. You don't know. The Obama doesn't know. Chuck Schumber doesn't know. This is why govt. shouldn't be in the business of controlling businesses - they don't know what they are doing.

Based on media reports, perhaps AIG should've foregone bonuses this year for the PR value. Agreed. However, for the SJR and the Administration to get all bent out of shape and take the HOLIER-THAN-THOU attitude is doing exactly what the SJR scolded us taxpayers for on Sunday.

The AIG bonuses are a diversion from the real theivery that is taking place every day at the hands of The Obama and the Dem Congress. Don't be fooled, like the SJR.

Here's the plan.....go to your local hardware store, purchase a bag of asphalt, and fill in the pothole of your choice. It will cost you less than 10-bucks but you will be helping out our beleagured city in this time of economic distress. If you can't afford the scratch for asphalt, take a picture of your favorite pothole and email to us.....Kelm & Kirk will then dispatch their newly formed PHERTs (Pot Hole Emergency Response Teams) to fill it....hey--it's people helping people. If you want to be part of this effort, email us your info.

***Once, again, in the fair city of Springfield, a man is shot to death, another shot but lives and NOBODY SAW NOTHING! From today's SJR: Dowis said a description provided to police of the two was sketchy, making efforts to track them down more difficult. And, this: Several people living on Brandon Drive told a reporter Sunday they could provide no information about the incident. One said she’d been told by police not to say anything until she talked to them first.

Sad.

Really, the Dick Durbin $8B money grab for Amtrak that won't do a thing to improve service, that seems necessary. What about studying hog odor in Iowa-another great project. The SJR actually admits that The Obama blew it on earmarks but accepts the admin's excuse that NOW they will do things differently. Of course, this is after The Obama allowed Congress to lard the thing up with another $80 BILLION in pork.

Pay no attention, you silly peons...

***Senator Show Me the Money turns up on a Blago fundraising list. His quota: $10,000. Yeah, I think it is time we let this thing drop with Burris. Afterall, nobody has shown that he's done anything wrong, right?

***Where is the Big Media outrage? When Sen. John McCain said that the fundamentals of the US economy where essentially stable, he was derided as out of touch; as having no economic judgment; as being an old coot who couldn't serve in the White House. Yesterday, in interview after interview, The Obama Team rolled out their new media assault and it sounded familiar:

During the fall campaign, Obama relentlessly criticized his Republican opponent, Sen. John McCain, for declaring, “The fundamentals of our economy are strong.” Obama’s team painted the veteran senator as out of touch and failing to grasp the challenges facing the country.

But on Sunday, that optimistic message came from economic adviser Christina Romer. When asked during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” if the fundamentals of the economy were sound, she replied: “Of course they are sound.”

“The fundamentals are sound in the sense that the American workers are sound, we have a good capital stock, we have good technology,” she said. “We know that — that temporarily we’re in a mess, right? We’ve seen huge job loss, we’ve seen very large falls in GDP. So certainly in the short run we’re in a — in a bad situation.”

***The hits just keep on coming for those who experienced Blago's taint. Now, Sam Zell is a target/witness of the federal corruption probe surrounding Crazy Rod. What's that saying about laying down with pigs???

***The Sears Tower is going to be re-named. Uh-huh. So? Most people still refer to the park where the Sox play as Comiskey or better still Sox Park. The Sears Tower will always be the Sears Tower.

***Old Chicago. If you grew up in or near Chicago in the '70s, you should remember this indoor amusement park and mall. Fondest memory was going there with my cousins and my uncle riding the ride where the floor drops out and puking all over the place...no wonder it went bankrupt.

***This story is sent from God. Gary Skoien has been a pompous ass for years and years and years. Karma comes around in the form of his buck-ten wife beating the holy crap out of him. There has got to be a great defense/divorce attorney out there who will nail this guy to a cross...Simply, awesome.

***Again, the NYT jumps all over a story about a crazy person with a gun. Will more laws stop crazy people from getting guns and killing people? Emphatically, no. This, of course, from the same group that is against concealed carry or for allowing teachers to carry in schools. NYT wants to disarm law abiding citizens and pass ineffective legislation that will result in more people being gunned down. Mexico, anyone?
